Welcome to our first “Work & Play Wednesday,” blog post! Each week, we’ll be profiling a different Qualifi employee, exploring what makes them tick both in and out of the office.
First up is Jessica Bushong, one of our stellar Software Engineers and Qualifi’s first official hire. Jessica is a Texas native and a graduate of Texas Tech University. She spent several years as a teacher before joining Qualifi as a Junior Software Engineer and has now been with Qualifi for just over three years. Jessica’s work has led to some of our favorite features in the Qualifi platform.
What do you enjoy most about your role at Qualifi?
My favorite aspect of being a software engineer at Qualifi is the impact I get to make on the product. I love being handed a design and then being able to turn that idea into an actual feature that our customers use.
I love my role, but if I could switch roles with anyone on the team for a day, it would definitely be someone on the Product team—specifically, someone in project management. I think I'd really enjoy taking new product ideas, detailing requirements, and building project requirement documents for engineers to then go off and build. I've always been a big planner, so that role would align with my skillset.
What tips do you have for people about how to be a great employee?
I make lists-- lots of them! Not only do they help keep me on track, but there's also something very satisfying about being able to cross items off the list when completed.
My favorite team-building activity is coffee & conversation. Does that count? I just enjoy having the chance to chat with people --- I don't really need an "organized" activity.
How do you unwind when the workday is done?
I love going out for walks to unwind after a busy day, and my husband and I are always testing out new recipes in the kitchen - I’m really working on improving my cooking and baking skills.
I've never been one to watch or play sports, but every once in a while I play Pickleball-- and that's always a ton of fun.
What else should we know about you?
When I was in high school (in Texas, naturally), I had the opportunity to be an extra on the tv series Friday Night Lights.
