The Challenge
When Shelly Vandenberg, the HR Manager at DK Security, needed a new cohort of employees the hiring cycle used to start by going back and forth with candidates to schedule and conduct a phone interview. The hiring team — a mix of nine full- and part-time recruiters — struggled to stay in contact with applicants.
DK Security has roughly 2,000 employees across Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio. Because their locations are throughout the Midwest, the recruiting team needed a hiring tool that:
- Is remote hiring friendly
- Automates part of the hiring cycle
- Works with their existing ATS
- Helps them quickly assess candidates 24/7
DK Security needed a way to speed up their time-to-hire and make their high-volume hiring demands easier on the recruiting team.
The Process
Before bringing Qualifi onboard to help with phone interviews, DK Security would follow a fairly standard process for hiring. “Typically, we look at an application, review it, move to a phone screen, do a virtual interview, make a hiring decision or move them to a second interview,” notes Vandenberg. “Where Qualifi stepped in is the automated part where we can just send [phone interview invitations] out. They can complete it at their own leisure rather than having us wait for them to call us back or schedule an appointment to speak to us.”
When DK Security no longer needed to schedule a phone call with candidates, they were able to broaden their applicant pipeline by sending out more interview invites.
“It really helped speed up the process and especially, too, for those candidates that we may not be as interested in; where we can just send them a quick reminder,” says Vandenberg. “Then we can gauge at that point whether we want to move forward or not. [Qualifi] helps out with getting through a lot of those candidates. Qualifi really helps to get through a lot of people quickly."

Now, when DK Security has an open position they:
- Review the applications
- Invite hundreds of candidates at once to complete a phone interview
- Receive responses in less than 5 hours
- Use Qualifi to evaluate responses audibly or a transcript with identified keywords
From there, DK Security is able to share this interview with team members right from their ATS — allowing hiring managers to find the right candidates and make offers.
The Result
When DK Security started automating the phone interview portion of their process, they saw nearly instant results. “[Using Qualifi] is an easy process,” says Vandenburg. “Because we have an ATS that we use, and then Qualifi is paired with that. I know some people are using this as their ATS to a point, but [Qualifi] is very easy to use and easy to put your notes in there. Overall, it's been a really great experience so far… It's definitely made our life easier.”
DK Security shortened their hiring process by 5 days when they started using Qualifi.
Vandenburg notes that one of the things she loves about Qualifi is how quickly help is there if you need it. “They're very quick to answer our questions. ‘Hey, what's going on kind of stuff,’ or if we have an issue, they're very responsive, which is great with the amount of recruiting that we do and how we use the tool.”
